Lactalis announced Thursday it was recalling all infant formula and other baby food products made since February 15 at its factory in Craon, northwest France. The newly recalled products account for about 720 batches, in addition to more than 600 batches previously recalled, according to Reuters.
The new recall involves products sold under the Picot, Milumel, and Taranis brands names, which were destined for both French and overseas markets, the company said.
Baby food products made at Lactalis’ plant in Craon are the suspected source of dozens of salmonella infections among infants in France.
After an initial recall was issued December 10, an investigation by Lactalis did not find any additional contamination. However, more than a dozen reports of infection since then led the company to halt production at the Craon facility.
Subsequent tests indicated that the contamination occurred at Craon during the first half of the year, according to Reuters.
Headquartered in Laval, France, Lactalis is a privately-held company that has 75,000 employees in 85 countries, and annual revenues of about 17 billion euros ($20 billion). Its other notable brands include President and Galbani cheeses and Parmalat milk.
